Volunteer of the season is when we get to shout about our amazing volunteers and the, quite literally, life changing work they do to help Fresh Futures run smoothly and effectively.
This time we would like to say a big THANK YOU to James who is a Family Time volunteer. We caught up with James to hear about his Fresh Futures’ volunteering journey so far…
Tell us a bit about yourself!
Hey, I’m James, I’m currently in college doing my GCSE maths.
I recently completed level 2 access to higher education but in order to get to level 3, I need my maths.
I have an NVQ level 3 in childcare with 5 years’ experience working in nurseries. My career goal in to become a child psychologist with counselling.
How long have you been volunteering with Fresh Futures?
I’ve been volunteering at Fresh Futures for about 3 months now. I volunteer with the Family Time service and work in the Out of School club!
Tell us about your volunteering role and what you do:
My role within Family Time is to support children in establishing a consistent relationship with their families/carers.
I also maintain a close working relationship with the staff and help them to ensure that we can offer the best service we can!
What made you want to start volunteering at Fresh Futures?
I’ve always wanted to help people and I believe that even if I can make a slight difference to someone’s day, and bring them happiness, it’s worth it.
It’s also helped to elevate myself to be better and push forward with my own career goals.
What is your favourite thing about volunteering at Fresh Futures?
The staff are amazing to work with! The service managers are always there to help and encourage you.
Working with the children and families is the best thing I’ve ever done professionally, I love watching them develop in confidence!
And finally, what advice would you give to people considering volunteering at Fresh Futures?
My advice for anyone considering volunteering is to just do it! It’s the best feeling in the world!
I’m so thankful I decided to take the plunge, I was very nervous but it’s the best decision I’ve ever made!
